Soitec to Provide Green Energy to Durban Climate Change Conference

Bernin, France – Soitec (Euronext), a world leader in generating and manufacturing revolutionary semiconductor materials for the electronics and energy industries, has built a concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) power plant next to Durban, South Africa, as the flagship project for the 17th annual Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, being held from November 28 to December 9. The 500 kW solar-energy facility, which will power the COP17 global gathering, will be officially inaugurated by South African President Dr. Jacob. G. Zuma on December 4.

Durban Update: Africa Expects Deal on Agriculture at COP17

Pretoria – African negotiators at the upcoming COP17 in Durban should push for a binding and responsible climate deal on agriculture.

Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN) CEO, Dr. Lindiwe Sibanda, said African negotiators should make it their priority to secure a deal that will promote food security for climate change, not to wreak havoc any further in the African continent.

Durban Update: Current Global Climate Efforts Not Enough, Action Needed at Durban

Panama City – Governments recognize that they need to speed up and scale up their efforts to combat climate change and they know that negotiations this week in Panama are important to prepare the ground for the next successful step towards that goal in Durban, the UN climate change chief said. The meeting in Panama City (1 to 7 October 2011) is the last formal negotiating session of the year designed to prepare for the next annual UN Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa (28 November to 9 December 2011).

Durban to Host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2011

Durban, South Africa – eThekwini Municipality of Durban has announced that the Seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and CMP7will be held in Durban, South Africa, in December 2011.

This further confirms Durban’s status as the sporting and events capital of Africa and will provide the city with another opportunity to showcase its ability to host large events. It also presents an opportunity from which to raise awareness around climate change and to promote its own climate change work as an example to others.
