Forest Climate Fund of World Bank Slammed for Sidelining Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Dalat, Vietnam – A new report launched March 23 at the 8th meeting of the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) reveals that the Bank is not fulfilling its promises to protect the rights of forest peoples.

“Smoke and Mirrors: A Critical Assessment of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility” by Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) and FERN exposes the World Bank’s failure to uphold its commitments on human rights and its engagement in never-ending changes to its social and environmental policies, weakening its accountability to affected communities and the public.

Cancún must be followed by Higher Global Emission Cuts and Rapid Launch of New Climate Bodies/Funds

Bonn – Nations must follow up their successful UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún with higher global emission cuts and the rapid launch of new institutions and funds to show the world that a new era of international cooperation on climate change is an established fact, Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), said on Monday.

“Cancún was a big step, bigger than many imagined might be possible. But the time has come for all of us to exceed our own expectations, because nothing less will do,” she said.

Climate Fund: Developed Countries Attempt to Launder Aid Money through World Bank and Call it 'Climate Funds'

At the end of the first week of UN climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany, Friends of the Earth International has warned that developed countries are attempting to launder aid money through World Bank and call it ‘Climate Funds’, and that they need to radically alter their plans over climate funding to prevent a repeat of the fallout from Copenhagen.
