Geneva – In today’s fast-paced world, it’s hard to imagine life without a mobile phone. Now the Green Up! Campaign from the UNEP is encouraging people across Europe to use their old mobile phones to promote sustainable development.

Throughout November, Green Up! is encouraging Europeans to take their old mobile phones for recycling. Green Up’s website pinpoints recycling centres on a Google map, which UNEP hopes – with help can become a comprehensive map of all European mobile phone recycling centres.

WWF Showcases Sustainable Rattan Use Amid Design Revival

Frankfurt, Germany – Natural rattan belongs to the design classics and it is making a comeback in design circles. Unfortunately, conventional forestry practices may damage tropical forests when the rattan is harvested. To avoid this forest destruction, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has set up a European Union funded programme for sustainable production and processing of rattan in the Mekong region. An innovative collection for rattan home accessories is being showcased this week at the international design fair Ambiente in Frankfurt/Main.

Recycling Waste: Power Plant Waste to Energize Oil Spill Clean-up

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Professor Sudipta Seal of University of Central Florida (UCF) a $67,000 grant that will help the professor turn waste material, commonly referred to as fly-ash, into a cleaning agent.
