UN Climate Change Conference in Durban Kicks Off

Durban – Against a background of record greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere, more frequent and intense extreme weather events, but also growing momentum for action to fight climate change, the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban kicked off on November 28.

At the start of the conference, South African PresidentJacob Zuma pointed to the climate impacts in Africa as a reason for all governments to take action.

Get Gold from Your Phone with the Green Up Campaign

Geneva – In today’s fast-paced world, it’s hard to imagine life without a mobile phone. Now the Green Up! Campaign from the UNEP is encouraging people across Europe to use their old mobile phones to promote sustainable development.

Throughout November, Green Up! is encouraging Europeans to take their old mobile phones for recycling. Green Up’s website pinpoints recycling centres on a Google map, which UNEP hopes – with help can become a comprehensive map of all European mobile phone recycling centres.

A wealth of sustainability data, hard to find in thousands of reports, will now be unlocked, thanks to a new database launched Wednesday, 9 November 2011, by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The new Sustainability Disclosure Database includes data on the sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency of over three thousand companies worldwide.
